Seventeen HWS students participated in the 2007 William Lowell Putnam Mathematics Competition on Saturday, Dec. 1 on campus.
The Putnam Competition, the oldest and most prestigious mathematics contest in the United States, annually draws about 3,000 students at 450 colleges and universities to spend six hours working on 12 problems and proofs, covering a wide range of topics.
Students comprising this year's team were Daisy Bird '10, Joe Bochynski '08, Alexandra Bowers '09, Franchessca Branlund '10, Alex Bryce '09, Meghan Cox '10, Josh Davis '10, Abbie DiPalma '10, Adam Giambrone '08, Cody Hewitt '11, Christine Luongo '10, Lisa Maticic '10, Bailey Meeker '09, Karina Polanco '11, Cameron Regan '10, Laura Valdmanis '10 and Junjun Zhu '10.
The team is advised by Associate Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science John Vaughn. Individual and team scores on the exam will be available in March, with the announcement of scholarship recipients.
