The Warren Hunting Smith Library now offers the campus community access to 400 newspapers from 77 countries through PressDisplay.
PressDisplay.com is an online newspaper kiosk that lets users view or listen to publications using an Internet browser with such features as instant translation, article blogging, e-mail sharing, and text-to-voice conversion. Accessing PressDisplay is the same as any of the database sites to which HWS subscribes; click the dropdown menu under the “Find Articles section of the library homepage, then select “PressDisplay.
There are roughly 340 foreign news publications (including Le Figaro, The Guardian, and Izvestia) as well as 60 domestic periodicals such as The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, and The Los Angeles Times. Searches can be customized by keyword, newspaper, country, language, date or author.
Aside from the obvious wealth of information it makes available, PressDisplay’s more important contribution lies in the plurality of viewpoints it provides, allowing for a more balanced analysis of current events.
