The Office of Residential Education welcomed back the HWS Resident Assistants for training and the opening of campus on Wednesday, Jan. 16 — four days before classes resumed.
The long weekend's theme was Blaze a Trail; RAs participated in teambuilding and leadership development sessions, replacing door decorations and changed the bulletin boards in their halls and houses.
Training topics included the on-campus improvements and construction projects, activities and events in the coming weeks, and learning to spot the difference between seasonal affective disorder and the winter blues, and how to help their residents cope with either.
Part of that coping was Friday night's Western-theme dinner and a country line dance with lessons.
The activities were one way to show the Colleges' appreciation for all that these student leaders do for the residents, and to wish them well as they begin the Spring 2008 semester.
