Stephen Sills P’11 will speak on “A career in commercial insurance,” starting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14 in Trinity 305.
He will also be available for one-on-one coaching sessions with students the next day, Friday, Feb. 15, also in Trinity Hall.
Sills is the founder, president and chief executive officer of Darwin Professional Underwriters, of Farmington, Conn. He took his company public in May 2006 and, less than a year later, transitioned it to the New York Stock Exchange.
As founder and former CEO of Executive Risk, now a subsidiary of The Chubb Corp., Sills was the primary catalyst for the company’s growth over its 13-year history. Under his leadership, Executive Risk grew from a small, private reinsurance firm into a publicly traded $600 million specialty lines insurance carrier.
He has been quoted in numerous insurance periodicals and major business publications, and he has been featured on CNN Financial News Network’s show “Business Unusual.” Sills holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Tennessee; he now serves on the board of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society. His son, Daniel Sills ’11, is a member of the Statesmen squash team.
