Five new theme houses have been approved by Res Ed for the 2008-09 year. While keeping some student favorites including the Writers House, Green House, The Multicultural Sisterhood House and Community Service House, new housing options have been added for students who are interested in living in a theme house.
The new houses include the William Smith Centennial Leadership House, at 141 St. Clair St., which will celebrate the centennial of William Smith College through lectures and seminars; the International House at 287 Pulteney St., which is designed to foster interest in other cultures; Project Eye-to-Eye, at 402 Pulteney St., a house for students participating in the new mentoring program; Heron House, at 380 S. Main St., which will house William Smith student-athletes; and Leaders of Tomorrow House, at 121 Hamilton St., for Hobart student leaders.
Kristen Tobey, assistant director of campus life in the Res Ed office, explains the importance of these new additions: “We believe that the theme houses that were accepted are a representative group of our student population on campus. We believe that the selected themes had strong applications with concrete ideas regarding how they plan to raise awareness and educate students about their cause through both active and passive programming and service. Through a variety of themes we hope to create a vibrant theme house community for the 2008-09 year!”
