The Hobart College hockey team moved up to No. 7 in this week’s Division III USCHO.com ranking. The Statesmen (18-7-2) earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, and will travel to No. 2 Plattsburgh (23-4-0) in the quarterfinal round on March 15.
Hobart is led by the ECAC West Rookie of the Year Matt Wallace (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and Co-Player of the Year, senior Shawn Houde (Manchester, N.H.), with 24 and 23 points, respectively. Additionally, sophomore Nick DeCroo (Sarver, Pa.) leads the team with 15 goals, while first-year Tom Capalbo (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) has handed out a team-high 19 assists.
Standout junior goalkeeper Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) was named to the ECAC West’s first team, and ranks fifth in the nation with a .932 save percentage. His 727 saves this winter rank second on the program’s career saves list, while his 14 victories in net tied the record for wins in a season.
The Cardinals won the SUNYAC Conference Championship, after defeating No. 8 Oswego 4-3 over the weekend. Plattsburgh is led by first-year Dylan Clarke’s 18 goals and 15 assists, and junior Riley Hill’s 14 goals and 17 helpers. First-year goalie Bryan Hince sports a 20-4-0 record in net, and ranks eighth in Division III with a 2.03 goals against average.
