Returning to campus on Monday, March 31 is Erik Van Slyke ’85, a principal of Buck Consultants, a global human relations firm. He is an expert in human relations strategy, operational transformations and organizational change. He will discuss his almost 20 years of experience in financial, consulting and human resources leadership roles as the next Professional in Residence in the series sponsored by the Salisbury Center for Career Services.
As a student, Van Slyke was a psychology major and economics minor, a member of Hobart Student Association and a resident adviser. This blend of studies and activities strongly influenced his eventual career path. After graduation, he went on to receive his master’s from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Since earning his master’s, Van Slyke has worked as a financial analyst for Sara Lee Direct, operated his own human resources consultant company, held a position in human resources strategies with Deloitte and Touche LLP, and, most recently, was a principal with HR alliance.
He is the author of “Listening to Conflict”(AMACOM Books, 1999), a book aimed at improving workplace communication and increasing efficiency and productivity.
His talk will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Trinity 305; any interested student may attend. He will also be available the next day, Tuesday, April 1, to meet individually with students and offer more personalized advice. These appointments need to be made in advance, which can be done at the Salisbury Center for Career Services.
