“In my view participation in athletics is about education, not about preparing athletes for professional sports,” says Bassett. She cited the growing epidemic of overweight children as key evidence for the need for good physical education programs in primary and secondary school, and said physical fitness and participation in athletics provide a host of valuable outcomes for students, including learning teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and discipline.
On Campus With Women is a quarterly online newsletter published by the Association of American Colleges & Universities. On Campus With Women was in print for more than 20 years and this fall was launched online. The March (Winter 2002) issue focuses on Title IX on campus. The newsletter's “From Where I Sit” section, which allows women from various positions on campus to reflect on Title IX on their campus.
