Sprinkle Named S.C. Psychologist of the Year

Steve Sprinkle, director of the counseling center, was recently given the “South Carolina Psychologist of the Year” award for “outstanding contributions to psychology in 2002-2003,” from the South Carolina Psychological Association (SCPA).

Sprinkle is trained as a clinical psychologist, and is licensed as a psychologist in New York. Before coming to the Colleges in 2002, he worked for 13 years at Clemson University (in South Carolina), where he was a staff psychologist and then director of training of the university’s Counseling and Psychological Services Center. During his time in at Clemson University he was very active in the South Carolina Psychological Association (SCPA), serving at different times as chair of the ethics committee and of the disaster response team, and as member-at-large and treasurer. He was elected president of the organization shortly before joining the Colleges.

He earned his undergraduate degree at the College of William and Mary (B.A., Sociology and Philosophy), and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Virginia.
