John Halfman, director of the envionmental studies program and acting coordinator of the Finger Lakes Institute, gave a talk on the Finger Lakes Institute at the annual meeting of the Rochester Committee for Scientific Information at Rochester Institute of Technology Tuesday, April 29. Their annual meeting focused on “Water Quality in the Finger Lakes”. Halfman presented the history of lake activities at HWS, and the initiation, current research, educational outreach and community service activities of the Institute.
Halfman's presentation followed water quality presentations by various limnologists including Bruce Gilman (FLCC) and Joe Makarewicz (SUNY Brockport), and a short and excellent documentary “Canandaigua Lake: Protecting our Vital Resource” produced by Dave Rose (Rose Film Productions). Kevin Olvany (Canandaigua Watershed Protection Alliance) was the moderator.
