Charles Temple, professor of education, was in Santiago, Dominican Republic, last week (June 23-27) leading a workshop for teacher trainers from around that country. The trip was sponsored by USAID's “Centers for Excellence in Teacher Training” project, a five-year endeavor to improve the teaching of literacy in the primary grades. Temple is serving as a consultant to a team of educators at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in Santiago who are preparing teacher training materials for use throughout the CETT project, which serves also El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
