(Dec. 6, 2004) Geneva, N.Y. — A visit to the Admissions Office at Hobart and William Smith Colleges will be even nicer thanks to a generous donation from an anonymous source. Recently, HWS received a gift in the amount of $500,000 to be put toward the Admissions Renovation Fund.
Currently, Hobart and William Smith Colleges admissions staff occupies two buildings and these funds will help combine the staff under one roof and improve a prospective student’s visit to campus. The funding enables the colleges to acquire 50 percent more space through an addition to one of the buildings, while keeping its historic appearance stylistically the same. Renovations are expected to begin in spring of 2005.
“This is a very generous gift that will be used to consolidate the admissions operation into one building, although it is much more than bringing staffs together in one place,” says Don Emmons, vice president of enrollments and dean of admissions. “It will be a major upgrade of the front end ‘living room’ of the campus, the place that is a prospect’s first experience with the Colleges on campus–and a critical one.”
The renovation will enable the Colleges to completely modernize and upgrade the entire admissions facility by improving office space, furniture, conference room, reception area and landscaping around the building.
