Billie Jean King, who received the Elizabeth Blackwell Award, was featured in the article “King takes pro tennis show to Cabrini” in the July 9 Philadelphia Inquirer. King attended the World Team Tennis opener as the Philadelphia Freedoms played against the Delaware Smash. According to the article, King believes that if young people see men and women on equal standing performing in a team atmosphere, it can't hurt.
“We're in this world together, so let's cooperate,” she said. “It's really important to socialize children that way. I think when they come to a match, either a boy or girl can identify seeing men and women cooperate, trying to help their teams win. It's equality.
