Spinning Into Butter launches the Hangar’s twenty-eighth summer Mainstage season, running from June 5 through June 15. The subject is race, and playwright Rebecca Gilman tackles it openly. This play takes a hard look at racism and the pitfalls of political correctness. When racist notes are posted on the dorm room door of an African-American student, Dean Sarah Daniels, faculty members and students must confront racism on both the personal and institutional levels. In the ensuing crisis, Dean Daniels and her colleagues deal with varying degrees of honesty and perceptiveness with their own feelings about race and their responsibilities to their students and each other. This play contains some adult language.
