The Geneva Theatre Guild will hold auditions for the musical, “The Fantasticks,” from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 8 and 9, at the Geneva Middle School, on Pulteney Street.
“The Fantasticks,” the world's longest running musical, has delighted audiences around the world since its debut in 1960. It is a simple story of a boy, a girl and their fathers' attempts to help their romance. The handsome El Gallo, a couple of Shakespearean actors, a mime and a handyman add to the charm.
The musical comedy will be directed by Steve VanKirk, of Seneca Falls, who directed last year's GTG musical, “Nunsense”.
“The Fantasticks” requires nine people, ages 16 and up. Several roles are not gender specific. The young couple needs to be a boy and girl in their late teens. Area residents planning to audition should have a prepared piece to sing and wear shoes comfortable for dancing. Dancing experience is not as important as the willingness and courage to learn.
“The Fantasticks” will be presented as dinner theatre at Belhurst Castle, Geneva, March 6, 7, 8 and 9.
