Combined Basic Literacy and ESOL Tutor Training

Literacy Volunteers of Ontario County is pleased to announce our next Combined Basic Literacy and ESOL Tutor Training for anyone interested in helping adults learn to read and write or to help adults learn to speak English.

Orientation for this training will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 17. The training will be held on the following Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30-8:30 p.m.: March 20, 24, 27, 31, and April 3, 7, and 10. All trainings are at 208 South Main Street, Canandaigua.

In order to become a tutor, one must be at least 18 years of age, have an interest in helping adult students to learn, be a high school graduate (or GED), be able to attend the entire training program and complete homework assignments, be willing to devote at least 2 hours per week to working with an adult student, and be willing to keep basic records to be submitted to LVOC as requested. It is not necessary to have a teaching background or to have knowledge of a foreign language to become a tutor. There is a $30 fee to offset the cost of materials used in the training.
