The Hangar Theatre’s school tour program, now in its eighth year, is mounting a new play for elementary school children, “The Truth About Dinosaurs”. The play was commissioned by the Hangar Theatre in August of 2002 and written by New York City based playwright, Jim Knable with the assistance of a community partner, the Paleontological Research Institution’s Museum of the Earth. “The Truth About Dinosaurs” is touring to 32 elementary schools, in nine counties during a four-week period beginning Feb. 27.
The story of dinosaurs comes alive in a series of three tales that entertain as well as educate students from kindergarten to fifth grade. Audiences will follow three important stories with the funny and engaging detective narrator called Trenchcoat. Throughout this play fun facts about the field of paleontology and the lives of dinosaurs are revealed through stories and sing-along songs. The play piques the curiosity of young people, awakening their interest in science and history, in addition to hitting on important character education topics like bullying, forgiveness, and respect.
Public performances of “The Truth About Dinosaurs” will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Groton Public Library, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, at the Pyramid Mall. For more information on these public performances call (607) 273-8588.
