Temple Beth-El Hosts Shabbat Across America

On Friday evening, March 7, Temple Beth-El of Geneva will celebrate “Shabbat Across America”. The Jewish community across the Finger Lakes is invited to welcome the Sabbath with a beginner's service, led by Cantor Richard Rosenfield. The service at 7:30 p.m. will be preceded by a community supper at 6:30 p.m. for which advance registration is required. This year's service will feature a short performance of “Burden Overtakers” by SpiritWorks of the Presbyterian Church of Geneva.

Participants will be able to learn about Jewish traditions and meet other members of their community in a comfortable and relaxed setting. The abbreviated service will include brief explanations of traditions. Shabbat Across America is open to all Jews and interfaith families, regardless of whether they have any affiliation with a synagogue. Temple Beth-El will be one of hundreds of synagogues across the continent that will simultaneously open their doors to practicing and non-practicing Jews alike, so they may join together to experience and share in a traditional Shabbat service.

For information and to sign up for supper, please call Cantor Rosenfield at Temple Beth-El, 789-9710. The synagogue is located along the shores of Seneca Lake (Route 14) at 755 South Main Street, Geneva, N.Y.
