A variety of traditional Middle Eastern foods are on the menu for a Lenten buffet, offered by the women of St. Michael’s Orthodox Church from 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, at the church, 98 Genesee St. All of the dishes will be handmade and fresh, using traditional methods and ingredients. Only 150 tickets will be sold. The cost is $12 per person for the all-you-can-eat buffet; no take-outs.
The menu will include stuffed grape leaves, cabbage rolls, kibbey with spinach and garlic, spinach pies, fried spinach dough, rice and lentil casserole, bulgar and mushroom casserole, oven-roasted rice pilaf, hu’mus (creamed sesame seeds and chick peas with roasted garlic and lemon), variety of Middle-eastern breads, tabouleh (diced parsley, mint, cucumber, tomatoes, scallions, bulgar, lemons, and spices), and an assortment of traditional sweets.
The proceeds of this event support the charitable activities of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Women of North America (AOCWNA), including establishing an endowment fund for three orphanages around the world, in Guatemala, Argentina, and in Damascus; also supporting a world-wide “Children’s Relief Fund” for emergencies that affect children in areas of natural and man-made devastation; and for establishing scholarships for needy women in this country.
