The Arthritis Walk is a nationwide fund-raising event benefiting the Arthritis Foundation, and will be held at noon on Sunday, Sept. 14, at The Sport and Recreation Center. If the weather is nice the walk will take place on the outdoor track. All related forms can be picked up at the Sport and Recreation Center.
The Arthritis Walk focuses on teams of individuals joining together to raise money to help prevent, control and cure arthritis and related diseases. The event offers participants a choice of a 5K (3.1 mile) walk or shorter one-mile option followed by a post walk celebration featuring entertainment, food, and valuable health-related information.
The Arthritis Walk targets the general population with a focus on women. Although anyone can participate in the Arthritis Walk, a major emphasis is placed on Team Recruitment. Participants are recruited through Corporate, Civic and Family Teams. Teams are made up of five or more people walking together in honor of someone with arthritis. Each team member is encouraged to raise a minimum of $50 to earn an Arthritis Walk t-shirt.
The Arthritis Foundation is the only nationwide, non-profit organization helping people take greater control of arthritis by leading efforts to prevent, control and cure arthritis and related diseases. Arthritis is the number one cause of disability, affecting one in three people; 70 million Americans. As baby boomers age, the incidence of arthritis is expected to rise significantly.
