Raku pottery is formed, glazed, fired and then fired again outside on a beautiful fall day. The ingredients that go into the pit determine the colors and sheen on the final piece. A Raku pottery class is being offered this September with the final firing in early October. Diane Davis will teach her technique to beginning and experienced artists alike. The dates are 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays, Sept. 11 and 18. The Raku firing with a special iridescent glaze especially for Raku is on the first weekend in October at Diane’s house. The cost is $40. Open to adults and supervised children.
Watercolor classes will be offered from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Sept. 16, 23, 30 and Oct. 7. The cost of the four classes is $25 for children 6-14. Pat Meyer will instruct in the ethereal quality of watercolor paints to create a colorful work of art.
Both classes will be held at Wayne Arts, 108 West Miller Street in Newark. Call 331-4593 to register.
