Literacy Volunteers Tutor Training

Literacy Volunteers of Ontario County announces the next Tutor Training (Basic Literacy & English for Speakers of Other Languages) for anyone interested in helping adults learn to read and write or to help adults learn to speak English.

Orientation for this training will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30. The training will be held on the following Mondays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 24 Park Place, Geneva: Oct. 30 and Nov. 3, 6, 10, 13, 17, 20, 24.

In order to become a tutor, one must be at least 18 years of age, have an interest in helping adult students to learn, be a high school graduate (or GED), be able to attend the entire training program and complete homework assignments, be willing to devote at least two hours per week to working with an adult student, and be willing to keep basic records to be submitted to LVOC as requested. It is not necessary to have a teaching background or to have knowledge of a foreign language to become a tutor. There is a $30 tax deductible fee to help offset the cost of materials used in the training.
