Nico Howie '03 recently reported in from the Howard Dean for President campaign trail that he is in good company with Tracey Kate Cenis '02 and Peter Van Vranken '91 also working for the Vermont Governor.
Cenis has been working as assistant to the national finance director since January while Van Vranken has worked for the past few years as health care policy analyst for Governor Dean. Howie is Dean's assistant research policy director.
Cenis is organizing fundraising events around the country. “We are in the midst of the most intense fundraising quarter (3rd) with the goal set at raising $10.3 million by September 30,” she says. “We are calling this 'September to remember' 30 days that will change the course of politics in this country. Besides the huge fundraising goal, we are trying to sign up 450,000 more supporters on our Web page www.deanforamerica.com by September 30.”
While at HWS, Cenis earned a double major in political science and media and society studies. After graduation, she went to her hometown of Burlington, Vt., and began to volunteer for Dean when there were five people on staff and about four volunteers. The staff has since grown to over 150 staffers nationally. “This has been a truly exciting and exhausting experience, and I am thrilled at the prospect of making it all the way to the White House!” she says.
Van Vranken, an American studies major, was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and the Statesmen football team. He has previously worked as a strategic analyst for Nextel Communication in McLean, Va., and for U.S. Senator Herb Kohn.
