This winter the Hangar Theatre has designed two adult classes for people interested in theatre and the craft of reading, writing, and enjoying theatre. Members of the play reading club, which will meet every other Tuesday Jan. 20 through March 16, will read and discuss plays from the Hangar’s 2004 season (including Blue Room and Of Mice and Men), an original play from the Hangar’s School Tour season, and other theatrical works. Discussions focus on how to effectively read plays, how scripts are conceived and adapted, and how productions transfer from the page to the stage.
Playwright and Hangar teaching artist Richard Keller will teach a five-session playwriting class from Jan. 19 through Feb. 16. This workshop is open to individuals who are thinking about writing a play, in the midst of writing a play, or have completed one or more drafts. Work will be tailored to each individual’s needs, whether they are beginning writers or already have an understanding of playwriting craft.
All classes take place in downtown Ithaca, from 7 to 9 p.m. Enrollment deadline is Jan. 9, 2004. Gift certificates are available. Call (607) 273-8588 ext. 410 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for tuition and scheduling information. Or visit www.hangartheatre.org for class details.
