Deir Yassin Memorial Dedication Recognized

A dedication ceremony for the first U.S. memorial to the victims of Deir Yassin, a bronze sculpture depicting an uprooted olive tree, was held on Wednesday, Sept. 24. The sculpture was created by the renowned Arab-American artist Khalil Bendib. Daniel McGowan, professor of economics, donated the land for the memorial. He is the executive director of Deir Yassin Remembered. An article on the memorial, titled “A New York town recalls a 1948 massacre of Palestinians” was published in the Sept. 24 issue of New York Newsday, and the article also ran in the Sept. 25 Finger Lakes Times.
