Jodi Dean, associate professor of political science, recently spoke at two venues in the Netherlands. At the Next Five Minutes Tactical Media Festival in Amsterdam, Dean was interviewed about her new book, “Publicity's Secret.” She was also invited to comment on the future of tactical media during the Festival's wind-up session. In Rotterdam, Dean presented an invited paper, The Technological Fetish, in a conference called, “Concepts of the Political,” hosted by the Department of Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam and involving leading scholars from France, Belgium, England, and the Netherlands working in the field of Social Studies of Science and Technology.
Additionally, Dean was recently selected to serve on a Social Science Research Council committee on Global Governance and Networked Technologies. This committee met in London during the summer to put together knowledge networks on the role of new technologies among global civil society actors (NGOs). It will meet again in Geneva, Switzerland, in December immediately following the World Summit on the Information Society.
