In conjunction with the Seneca Lake Whale Watch – and to clean out their bulging storage closets – the Smith Opera House is holding a used movie poster sale from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27. With its own entrance from Seneca Street, the sale will be held in the theatre's conference room on the building's east end.
Hundreds of posters from the films shown at the historic Geneva landmark over the years will be made available. With such titles as “The Return of the King,” “The Passion of the Christ,” “Chicago,” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” most of the posters are from films recently screened stretching back about six to 10 years according to Smith officials.
Posters are $5 each or three for $10. There is also a smaller selection of $1 items. All proceeds from this sale will be used to support two upcoming film programs at The Smith: the “Hot Docs 04” documentary series featuring “Control Room,” “Farenheit 9/11” and “Super Size Me,” and the “Monday Movie Roundtable” which invites patrons to join in a facilitated discussion of that week's movie in the theatre's lower-level cabaret following the Monday night screening.
From foreign films to Hollywood blockbusters, Oscar-winning documentaries to animated classics, this special sale offers a unique opportunity to take home a special piece of the movies.
Featuring the largest indoor movie screen in the Finger Lakes, the Smith Opera House is located at 82 Seneca Street in Geneva. Call 315-781-5483 or toll-free 866-355-5483 for details.
