The Geneva Theatre Guild will present the award winning one-act play, Foibles, at the State Theatre Festival, Saturday, Nov. 20. The three-day festival at Cayuga Community College, Auburn, will feature eight productions by community and academic theatre groups from across the State.
Foibles, by Geneva Playwright Jay Hanagan, received six Theatre Association of New York State awards when it was presented in September at Anthony Road Winery. The production is directed by Guild President Larry Ann Evans.
Well known Geneva actress Eleanor Stearns heads the award winning cast and is making her second appearance at Festival. Christina Nardozzi and Tim Whitwood, both of Geneva, will be making their Festival debuts.
Hanagan's play is about an elderly woman facing the fact that she is going to die that day. She puts her last bits of unusual business in order with the help of her daughter and robot house servant. Prior to the Guild's production, Foibles was presented at the Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Original Play Festival in New York City in June.
Foibles will be one of five one act plays competing for the honor of representing New York State at the Eastern States Theatre Festival in Dover, Delaware, next April.
The Guild will perform during the Saturday afternoon performance session, which starts at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. This is the Geneva Theatre Guild's fourth invitation to the State Theatre Festival, which begins Friday evening, Nov. 19 and continues through Sunday, Nov. 21.
