Handbells and chimes ring in the season when the Finger Lakes Bronze Handbell Ensemble returns to the Smith Opera House on Saturday, Dec. 4 with a special holiday concert, “Ring in the Season.”
Under the direction of Judith Treisback, sacred and secular carols from medieval to contemporary using a wide variety of sounds and techniques will be performed in The Smith's acoustically superb auditorium, promising to make this a night to remember. And a delightful start to the holiday season. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the 7 p.m. show.
Finger Lakes Bronze is a not-for-profit community handbell organization dedicated to promoting the musicality of handbells through performance and education. Founded in 2000, the group has performed throughout the Finger Lakes region and hosts and annual techniques workshop for handbell directors and ringers. The variety of music played emphasizes original compositions for bells and explores the various styles and sounds available in the genre.
Finger Lakes Bronze performs on four 1/2 octaves of Schulmerich handbells and four octaves of Malmark handchimes. Performing members are from Canandaigua, Dundee, Geneva, Lyons, Palmyra, Seneca Falls, Walworth and Waterloo.
Tickets are available at the Smith box office, Area Records and Music in Geneva, or by calling 315-781-LIVE (5483) or toll-free 866-355-LIVE (5483).
The Smith Opera House is located at 82 Seneca Street in Geneva. The Smith is supported, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, the City of Geneva, the Town of Geneva and by contributions from individual supporters.
