Due to the overwhelmingly positive response received last year, the Smith Opera House's annual “Medley of Tastes,” will once again be held in and around Houghton House on the campus of Hobart and William Smith Colleges. The popular wine and food tasting fundraising event is scheduled from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 20.
One of the region's premier events of its kind, nearly 50 vendors from restaurants and wineries throughout the Finger Lakes are expected to share their finest samples or “tastes” with event attendees.
Located off of South Main Street in Geneva, Houghton House is hidden deep amidst a cornucopia of trees and greenery. Its driveway through the woods is long and winding; its seclusion and grandeur recall relaxing summer evenings of yore sipping one's favorite beverage on the veranda and helps set the stage for an elegant and inviting evening of fabulous food and delicious drink.
People's choice awards in four different categories will be given to participating vendors at the conclusion of the evening. Last year's winners were:
• Hobart and William Smith Colleges Dining Services – “Best Food Taste”
• Dr. Konstantin Frank's Vinifera Wine Cellars and Chateau Frank- “Best Wine Taste”
• Miller's Essenhaus – “Best Dessert Taste”
• Keuka Restaurant – “Best Presentation”
If you only heard about last year's sold-out “Medley,” then be sure to get your tickets early and don't miss out. Of the 400 tickets that were made available in January, only 30 remain. They are $25 in advance and may be purchased at The Smith box office or by calling 315-781-LIVE or toll-free 866-355-LIVE, weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Smith accepts Visa, MasterCard and Discover.
All patrons receive a complimentary limited edition 2005 “Medley of Tastes” wine glass and buffet tray with admission. There will also be exciting raffle opportunities featuring gift certificates and products from Finger Lakes region restaurants and wineries.
The Smith Opera House is located at 82 Seneca Street in Geneva. The Smith is supported, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, the City of Geneva, the Town of Geneva and by contributions from individual supporters. The “Medley of Tastes” is sponsored by Warder's Geneva Awning and Tent Works, Pedulla's Liquor Store and Toeprints Dance Studio.
All proceeds generated by the 2005 “Medley of Tastes” go to support the family and children's programming at the historic Geneva landmark. Last year's “Medley” raised nearly $11,000.
