GENEVA — Agnes Jaoui's film “Look at Me” will be shown starting this weekend at the Smith Opera House.
Although “Look at Me” is very much an ensemble piece, Lolita Cassard, played by Marilou Berry, stands at the narrative center of the film. An overweight 20-year-old voice student, she rails against media-driven images of beauty, which her gorgeous stepmother Karine (acted by Virginie Desarnauts) obsessively counts calories to embody.
The film was a hit at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and won the Best Screenplay award. Screenings begin at 7 p.m. July 23, 25 and 26 and at 2 p.m. July 24. Rated PG-13 for brief language and a sexual reference, this film has a running time of 1:50, and is in French with English subtitles. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. All seats are $2 on Tuesday.
