“Riding the Mystical Chariot: Exploring Mysticism in Song,” a concert by the Syracuse Vocal Ensemble, will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at St. Peter's Church, corner of Genesee and Lewis streets, Geneva.
Bob Cowles, chair of the HWS Music Department, is artistic director for the ensemble.
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “mysticism” as “the belief that direct knowledge of God, spiritual truth, or ultimate reality can be attained through subjective experience (as intuition or insight).”
This program will reflect on the intersection of mysticism and modern song. Included will be music by mystics including John Tavener, Arvo Pärt, Herbert Howells, and Einojuhani Rautavaara, as well as choral texts by historic mystical poets, including St. John of the Cross and Rabindranath Tagore.
Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 for senior citizens and non-HWS students, and $5 for HWS students, and will be available at the church office.
