Geneva photographer featured at Smith Gallery, gift shop

GENEVA — The Smith Opera House Gallery and Gift Shop's reception for photographer Jeff Adams of Geneva will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, one week later than initially scheduled.

The gallery's featured artist for August, Adams will be on hand to talk about his work; refreshments will be served and the public is invited.

Adams is director of the Education Technology Center at Finger Lakes Community College, and started taking pictures when he was 9 years old and living in Geneva.

He still has all his cameras and negatives from that time, and said he enjoys the benefits of digital technology and inkjet printers, which “make this art form so motivating and inspiring.”

“I can shoot, edit, and print all without going to third-party services. The constant changes and improvements in this medium make it fun as well as a challenge to keep up.”

Adams' favorite subject matter can be found all around him: “The Finger Lakes area presents countless subjects and locations for doing creative work,” he said.

The Smith Opera House Gallery and Gift Shop displays and sells works by more than 70 area and regional artists and craftspeople. The gallery, at 82 Seneca St., is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is also open before selected Smith events; for details, call (315) 781-LIVE or toll-free (866) 355-LIVE.
