“Is There a Muslim Diaspora?: Promises and Challenges of Islam in Europe, Africa and North America,” will be the topic of a panel discussion starting at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in Warren Hall on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca.
Panelists will be:
* Professor Bassam Tibi, Professor of International Relations at the University of Goettingen, Germany, a former visiting professor at Harvard, who is an expert on Islam and the Middle East;
* Professor Ali Mazrui, director of the Institute of Global Cultural Studies and Albert Schweitzer Professor in the Humanities at Binghamton University and a professor-at-large emeritus and Senior Scholar in Africana Studies at Cornell, who is a consultant on issues including constitutional change and educational reform; and
* Dr. Nimat Hafez Barazangi, a research fellow in Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Cornell and a scholar in Islamic foundations of education and identity development.
A reception will follow the discussion.
