Perkins, Craig, and Diana present at U.S. Dept. of Education Meeting

Wesley Perkins, professor of sociology, was invited to speak about his edited book on “The Social Norms Approach to Preventing School and College Age Substance Abuse: A Handbook for Educators, Counselors, and Clinicians” (Jossey-Bass, 2003) in a “Meet the Authors” session at the National Meeting on Alcohol, Other Drug, and Violence Prevention in Higher Education in Austin, Texas, on Oct. 18. At the same national meeting Perkins, David Craig, professor of chemistry, and David Diana, director of alcohol and other drug programs, presented a workshop on “Most Valuable Players — Using Social Norms to Target Athletes as a High-Risk Sub-Population,” a U.S. Department of Education funded project at HWS that has produced quite positive results in reducing negative misperceptions and in improving the collegiate experience of student-athletes.
