Campus update – April 19, 2021 – Hobart and William Smith Colleges \

Messages to the Community

April 19, 2021

Dear Members of the Hobart and William Smith Community,

During the past week, the Colleges administered 912 COVID-19 tests of which 1 was positive, a .1% positivity rate. The new positive case was already in quarantine, and as a result of the timing of symptoms and exposure, the new positive along with all other positive cases are now considered recovered. One person remains in quarantine until Wednesday.

On Friday, April 16, the Colleges were very fortunate to host a first dose Pfizer vaccination clinic. More than 200 students and 300 individuals overall were vaccinated at the clinic, which was conducted at the Bristol Field House. The second dose administration is scheduled for Friday, May 7. Those students who may need accommodations for the assigned timing of the second dose should contact Dean Brandon Barile at barile@hws.edu. Accommodations will be made only due to conflicts with final examinations.

About 60% of Hobart and William Smith faculty and staff report being fully vaccinated as of this morning. We ask employees to share vaccination status when they have completed their course through the COVID-19 vaccination tracker so that the Colleges can follow progress and consider the need for further clinics. More than 50% of students have received at least one dose, and we ask students to upload final vaccination proof on the MyHousing portal for similar tracking purposes.

During the past week, the Colleges welcomed many prospective students and parents for campus visits, and this past weekend we were able to carry out our Day of Service and also welcome a limited number of family members into Boswell Field to attend the William Smith Lacrosse final season home game. These accomplishments reflect the willingness of our community to follow public health guidance and take seriously our collective responsibility to continue efforts to keep our community safe and healthy.

With all best wishes for a continued positive trend on campus over the next week.

Sincerely,

Mary Coffey
Provost and Dean of Faculty
