Dear Members of the Hobart and William Smith Community,
During the past week, the Colleges administered 732 COVID-19 tests of which three were positive, a .4% positivity rate. Three students are in isolation, and three people are considered to have recovered since last week. Six students remain in quarantine at this time. Almost all persons are currently scheduled to be released by midweek.
We are very fortunate that cases among our campus community remain low. Other colleges have not been as fortunate, with several in New York currently experiencing major outbreaks. As we enter April, our final full month of spring semester classes, it is essential that we continue to follow all public health guidance regarding social distancing and the use of face coverings, and that we continue to limit social gatherings. It is not necessary to wear a face covering outdoors while walking or exercising alone, but face coverings should be used whenever you are in proximity to others.
Availability of COVID-19 vaccinations are increasing and we continue to lobby the State to expand eligibility to ensure that all members of our community can be vaccinated as quickly as possible and to create a clinic here on campus. As a reminder to those graduating this spring, preliminary information regarding Commencement 2021 can be found on our website, which will be updated as additional information becomes available.
