Celebrating Reunion 2017

With what is anticipated to be a record number of alums from across the decades returning to campus, HWS Reunion 2017 kicks off on Thursday, June 1 for an exciting weekend dedicated to reconnecting, reminiscing, celebration and tradition. The weekend will host a special celebration dinner for President Mark D. Gearan L.H.D.’17 and Mary Herlihy Gearan L.H.D. ’17 on Saturday night.

The Classes of 1967 get the festivities started with their 50th Reunion Welcome Reception on Thursday evening at the Scandling Campus Center. This year’s Reunion will also feature the final “State of the Colleges” address of President Gearan, followed by the traditional Parade of Alums with the Savannah Cellars Marching Band leading to the Quad. In addition to the 50th Reunion alums, other milestone Classes are in attendance including 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007 and 2012.

On Friday beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Vandervort Room, alums and members of the HWS community will gather for the Distinguished Faculty Awards, honoring Professor Emeritus of English Jim Crenner, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy Benjamin Daise and the late Professor of History Maureen Flynn P’09, P’12, P’16. Among the numerous events on Friday, there will be Seneca Lake tours on the William Scandling research vessel, a tour in nearby Waterloo, N.Y., of the American Civil War Memorial designed by sculptor Pietro del Fabro ’67, and live jazz and art exhibition at the Davis Gallery at Houghton House during the evening.

On Saturday, there will be lunch on the Quad and the Reunion Forum, book signings with alum authors, Family Fest on the Quad, Kids Camp and special gatherings and open houses. Following the dinner and celebration in honor of the Gearans at Bristol Field House, the Quad will feature live music and fireworks to conclude the evening.

Other weekend highlights include the always popular Reunion College classes, the HWS Classic Golf Tournament at Clifton Springs Country Club, Finger Lakes Wine and Microbrew Festival, tours of campus, class receptions and dinners.

Reunion Headquarters will be open at the Scandling Campus Center for check in and registration from 1 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to midnight on Friday, and from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday.
