+ Commencement 2020 Reminder – Hobart and William Smith Colleges \

May 20, 2021

Dear HWS Graduates of 2020,

It is time to celebrate you and your accomplishments! Events will take place starting Friday, June 4 through the Commencement Ceremony on the Quad on Sunday, June 6. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m., rain or shine. The ceremony will also be livestreamed and all graduate names will be announced.

We are excited to announce that due to updates in the New York State and local guidelines, each graduate may now invite four guests to be on campus for Commencement. Registration is still open and has been extended until Saturday, May 22. Thank you to those members of the Classes of 2020 who have already registered!

If you have already registered yourself and two guests, you may add two additional guests by going to the registration portal. If you have not registered yet, you will need to go to the registration portal twice to register 4 guests. Please only enter your choices for meals and lodging in one of the entries (housing and meals are only offered to graduates.) We ask that you only register your guests, not those of another graduate. If you will not have a guest for the weekend, please leave the section blank.

To learn more about the weekend, please go to the Commencement Week Schedule on the Commencement 2020 website.

All campus guests, including the members of the Classes of 2020, are required to take precautions to help HWS maintain a healthy community. (Directions regarding check-in and the link for uploading COVID-related documentation will be communicated to each registered guest in a separate email.) Before arrival on campus, please go to the Covid Documentation Submission link to upload one of the following:

  • A record of full vaccination (final vaccination dose must have been received at least 14 days prior to arrival on campus)
  • Or a negative COVID-19 PCR test completed, at most, 72 hours prior to arrival
  • Or a record of a positive COVID-19 test from within 90 days, with the individual out of isolation and no longer experiencing symptoms.

If you or your guests are not vaccinated, have not had a positive COVID-19 diagnosis within 90 days or were unable to receive a COVID-19 test prior to arrival, HWS will offer rapid COVID-19 testing at check-in at the Barn from 2 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. on Friday, June 4 and 9 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 5. We will offer limited testing on Sunday, June 6, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Results of rapid testing are available within 15 minutes of sample collection. After arrival and upon review of your documentation or negative COVID-19 tests, you and your guests must each go to check-in to receive a wristband and lanyard with name tag, clearing you to be on campus to participate in all Commencement activities. Check-in is open at the Odell’s South Parking Lot from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Sunday. We highly recommend you plan to check-in on Friday or Saturday. Everyone must visibly display/wear your wristband and name tag for the duration of your visit and at every campus activity for the Classes of 2020.

A livestream link to the ceremony will be available on the Commencement 2020 website for any family members or friends to view the ceremony from around the world.

If you have any questions about Commencement, the weekend’s activities or the registration please contact alumrelations@hws.edu.

We look forward to celebrating with you in June!
