President

April 23, 2021

Dear Members of the Classes of 2021,

We are excited to celebrate your accomplishments during Commencement weekend in May!

While we wish your entire family could join in the celebration on campus, we are pleased to be able to invite two guests for each 2021 graduate. Although this may be disappointing for larger and extended families, in accordance with New York State and local guidelines, allowing a maximum of two guests per graduate helps ensure a safe environment on campus for your Commencement weekend.

We are asking you to complete this registration for your two guests no later than May 3. Please note that the ceremony will happen rain or shine, except in the case of a storm that would preclude us from holding Commencement on the Quad, the ceremony will still be livestreamed with all graduate names announced.

All guests for Commencement weekend will be required to take the necessary precautions to help HWS maintain a healthy community. Before arrival on campus, each guest will need to upload one of the following (we will send instructions on uploading documents closer to Commencement):

  • a negative COVID-19 PCR test completed, at most, 72 hours prior to arrival
  • or a record of full vaccination (guest must have received the final vaccination dose at least 14 days prior to arrival to campus)
  • or a record of a positive COVID-19 test from within 90 days, with the guest out of isolation and no longer experiencing symptoms.

If a guest is not vaccinated, has not had a positive COVID-19 diagnosis within 90 days or was unable to receive a COVID-19 test prior to arrival, HWS will offer rapid COVID-19 testing at check-in at the Barn from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 14 and 15. We will offer limited testing on Sunday, May 16 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Results from rapid-testing are available within 15 minutes of sample collection. Upon review of the documentation or negative COVID-19 tests, guests will receive a bracelet and lanyard with name tag at the check-in, clearing them to be on-campus to participate in Commencement activities. Guests must visibly display/wear the bracelet and name tag for the duration of the visit to campus.

Directions regarding check-in and uploading COVID-related documentation will be communicated to each guest closer to Commencement.

HWS is offering an easy dinner option for you and your family on Friday, May 14 with a to-go family style BBQ dinner. Please click here to learn more and place your order.

If you have any questions about Commencement, registration or activities for the weekend, please contact us at parentsoffice@hws.edu. Also, visit the Commencement 2021 webpage for more information.

We are excited to celebrate with you in May!

Sincerely,
Kristen
