The Hobart and William Smith academic year will officially kick off today, Monday, Aug. 27, with Convocation, bringing together students, faculty, staff and alums to reflect on the values of the Colleges. Due to the forecast of rain and the heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service, the ceremony has been moved into the Vandervort Room with overflow seating available in Albright Auditorium. The all-campus picnic immediately following Convocation has been moved into Saga Dining Hall.
The campus community will welcome Margarita Ramos ’85, Global Head of Human Resource Compliance for Bank of America Merrill Lynch, who will offer the keynote address. Associate Professor of Media and Society Leah Shafer, who was awarded the faculty prize for teaching in May, and student trustees Gavin Gross ’19 and Caitlin Lasher ’19 will also offer remarks.
A member of the William Smith Alumnae Council and a former HWS Trustee, Ramos has spent nearly 30 years as a labor and employment lawyer, both in the public and private sectors. More information on Ramos’ Life of Consequence can be found here.
