Hobart College junior defenseman Julien Denicourt was named to the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week on Thursday. He was awarded the 2018 Middlebury Holiday Classic Most Valuable Player award after leading the Statesmen to the tournament title this past weekend.
Hobart (9-4-0) won the 2018 Middlebury Holiday Classic at Kenyon Arena. In the semifinals, the Statesmen knocked off No. 11 University of New England 4-2, scoring three goals in the third period to rally from a 2-1 deficit. On Sunday, Hobart defeated the host Panthers 3-0 in the championship game.
Denicourt finished the weekend with two assists, both in the victory over the Nor’easters. He dished out the helper on the game’s first goal 12 minutes into the first period. Denicourt then set up Mark Benemerito’s game-tying goal three minutes into the third period. Against Middlebury, he was a major part of the Hobart defense that pitched its first shutout of the season. The Statesmen limited the Panthers to just 15 shots on goal.
Hobart, which is ranked No. 15 in the nation, will be back in action this weekend, Jan. 4 and 5, when it welcomes Potsdam to The Cooler for a pair of non-conference games. The Bears are 6-7-0 this season. Vincent Guimond leads the team with 13 points (5g, 8a). Nate Skidmore has played a majority of the minutes in goal.
