DeVaney ’23 Earns 4th Rookie Award

William Smith College first-year forward Lauren DeVaney was named the Liberty League Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week by the conference office on Jan. 13. It’s the fourth time she has garnered the award.

Additionally, sophomore Olivia Parisi was named to the league’s weekly honor roll.

DeVaney averaged 11.7 points, a team-high 11.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.0 steals in a 2-1 week for the Herons. In Monday’s 70-45 win at Keuka, she notched her third double-double on 12 points and a game-high 18 rebounds. In Friday’s 90-86 overtime win at RIT, DeVaney logged 14 points, a team-high nine rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots and two steals. In Saturday’s 60-48 loss at Ithaca, she had nine points and a team-high seven rebounds. For the week, DeVaney shot .412 from the floor, .667 from 3-point range, and made all five of her free throw attempts.

DeVaney has played in all 11 games this season, starting six. She’s averaging 13.1 points and a team-high 9.8 rebounds while shooting .438 from the floor, .500 from 3-point range and .737 at the free throw line. DeVaney ranks in the top 10 in the league in rebounding (4th), free throw percentage (5th), field goal percentage (7th) and scoring (10th).

Parisi averaged a team-best 17.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals last week. Against the Wolves, she scored a game-high 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds, made three steals and dished out a pair of assists. Against the Tigers, Parisi scored a team-high 20 points, collected a team-high nine rebounds, posted three assists and blocked two shots. She scored five of William Smith’s 11 points in overtime. Against the Bombers, Parisi had 10 points and six rebounds. For the week, she shot .550 from the floor, making 22-of-40 shots.

A starter in every game this season, Parisi is averaging a team-high 16.5 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting .474 from the floor and .707 at the line. Parisi ranks in the top 10 in the league in scoring (3rd), field goal percentage (4th), rebounding (5th) and free throw percentage (7th).

William Smith sports a 7-4 overall record and a 3-1 mark in conference play. The Herons conclude a four-game road trip Tuesday, Jan. 14, when they visit Union (4-6, 1-3). Tipoff in Schenectady is at 5:30 p.m.
