At Hobart and William Smith, students participate in a wide range of internships, from Wall Street firms to the Smithsonian, from the CIA to community foundations. Many find those internships with the help of the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education.
The staff at the Salisbury Center aids students in determining internships that best fit their interests and academic focus. “You don’t have to have it all figured out before you come in,” says Director Brandi Ferrara.
Through career counseling sessions, job shadowing, networking and the Pathways program, the Salisbury Center ensures students have career opportunities and resources. “Hobart and William Smith guarantee that students of good academic and social standing who successfully complete the Pathways Program will be able to participate in at least one internship or research opportunity,” says Ferrara. “We help students find internships in business, nonprofits, science, government and more. We’re structured in the office to support all students.” If the opportunity is unpaid, students can utilize the Guaranteed Internship Funding program to receive a stipend from the Colleges.
Alum connections at HWS are a key component of internship and career exploration and have received national attention. Earlier this year, the Princeton Review ranked the Colleges’ alumnae and alumni network 15th in the nation in the 2019 edition of the “The Best Value Colleges: 200 Schools with Exceptional ROI for your Tuition Investment.”
