After completing an internship in public relations at the leading financial services provider Fidelity Investments, Caroline Ackerman ’20 accepted a position as a media analyst. Following graduation, Ackerman will join the firm in its Boston, Mass. office.
Ackerman interned in the company’s public relations department, where she focused on investment products and solutions. In an external facing role, Ackerman wrote press releases about the firm’s investment products and created media updates for her team. A fast-paced and collaborative environment, Ackerman says she felt energized by the changing daily routine of a public relations team in the financial services industry.
In her role as a media analyst following graduation, Ackerman will work in partnership with the external communications and marketing team to execute the external communications strategy across media relations, social media and executive communications.
A media and society major, Ackerman became captivated by the public relations field while taking classes such as “Media and Theory” with Assistant Professor of Media and Society Rebecca Burditt. Currently, Ackerman is pursuing an independent study with Professor of Writing and Rhetoric Cheryl Forbes in marketing. The semester long research includes a practical assignment, as Ackerman works with downtown Geneva, N.Y. business FLX FryBird to improve their targeted marketing strategies.
Ackerman believes her minor in entrepreneurial studies gave her unique qualifications that helped get a foot in the door at Fidelity. “Entrepreneurial studies in a liberal arts environment helped me develop skills that are needed in business in order to succeed.”
