Transfer Student Financial Aid
Fall 2020 transfer applicants should follow prospective student information.
HWS requires all students who wish to apply for financial aid to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition, prospective students who wish to apply for institutional need-based grant aid must file the CSS PROFILE application. Applications must be submitted by the deadlines indicated:
Step 1: CSS Financial Aid Profile
Complete the
CSS/Financial Aid Profile by June 1 for fall admission or November 1 for spring admission. The Hobart and William Smith college code is 2294.
Estimates of income should be used when actual numbers are not available.
Noncustodial PROFILE
Instructions for the
Noncustodial PROFILE will be sent to all applicants whose natural parents are divorced or separated. The noncustodial parent will be directed to complete this additional form online after the CSS Profile application is submitted. The NCP must also be completed by the CSS Profile deadline indicated above.
Step 2: FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
Applicants seeking federal financial aid need to complete the FAFSA. The FAFSA can be found at www.fafsa.gov and is available October 1, 2019. The preferred deadline for completion of the FAFSA is February 1, 2020, and our school code is 002731. In order to complete the FAFSA, the student and one parent must have an FSA ID number which will serve as your electronic signature.
Apply for your FSA ID online.
The
IRS Data Retrieval Tool will remain unavailable until the start of the next FAFSA season. We regret any inconvenience.
To fill out a FAFSA, you can manually input your tax information. Remember, if you’re filling out the 2020–2021 FAFSA form, your 2018 tax information is required (not 2019).
FSA ID Reminder: Login to the FAFSA with your FSA ID only if you are the student. Parents: Refer to Help, Trending Questions if you’re helping your child fill out the FAFSA.
