The No. 22 William Smith College squash team will be back in action this weekend, Feb. 8-9, for the 2020 Liberty League Championship. The University of Rochester will host Saturday’s matches, and Hobart and William Smith Colleges will host Sunday’s matches.
The Herons will travel to the Lyman Squash Center for two matches on Saturday, and return to Geneva for one match at the Smith Squash Center on Sunday. On Day 1, William Smith will face St. Lawrence at noon, and will end the day with a match against Vassar at 4:30 p.m. The Herons will play Bard at 9 a.m. Sunday.
The Herons are 12-3 overall this season and are led by senior Gabby Fraser. Fraser is 11-2 this season. First-year Marcela Marquez Martinez joined the William Smith roster in January, and is 6-0 at No. 1 and 1-0 at No. 2.
The No. 28 Saints are 4-15 coming into this weekend. Sanna Koivumaki is 6-12 this season and plays at No. 1 for St. Lawrence.
The No. 33 Brewers have a 5-12 mark this season. Vassar is led by Claire Coss with five wins at No. 1.
The Raptors are ranked 41st in the nation and hold a 2-12 record. First-year Pam Jaramillo has anchored Bard at No. 1, earning three wins this season.
The Herons were 2-1 at last year’s championship. William Smith defeated Bard 9-0 and Vassar 8-1, falling to the then No. 23 Saints 8-1. Fans can follow the action with live scoring and tournament pages for Rochester and William Smith.
