Hobart and William Smith Colleges will host its annual Homecoming and Family Weekend Sept. 27-29. The fun-filled weekend will include four home athletic contests, alumni and alumnae gatherings and the dedication of the Thomas B. Poole ’61 and Family Sports Dome.
Opening earlier this year, the Thomas B. Poole ’61 and Family Sports Dome will be officially dedicated on Saturday at 11 a.m. The $3.5 million state-of-the-art practice facility gives the Colleges’ field teams a place to practice in any weather. Hobart and William Smith Trustee Thomas B. Poole ’61, L.H.D. ’06 and his wife, Mary Jane Poole P’91, were instrumental in making the new facility a reality through a lead gift for the fundraising campaign.
The Hobart tennis team will kick off the weekend action, hosting the ITA Northeast Regional Championships. Matches are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday. The field of 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams will be whittled down to the Northeast Champions by Sunday afternoon. Hobart senior Alan Dubrovsky is the defending singles champion. He also teamed up with junior Walker Anderson to capture the 2018 doubles regional title. Matches will be played on the eight outdoor courts of the HWS Tennis Center and the five indoor courts of the Bristol Field House.
In addition to the tennis tournament, there will be three games hosted on Saturday. William Smith field hockey takes on the University of Rochester at noon on McCooey Field. It will be the Liberty League opener for both teams. The nationally-ranked Hobart football team kicks off at 1 p.m. against Montclair State University. The Red Hawks will make their first trip to Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium to face an undefeated Statesmen squad that is ranked No. 22 in the latest coaches poll and No. 25 in the D3football.com poll. Nationally-ranked William Smith soccer hosts Skidmore College at 3 p.m. on Cozzens Field. The Herons are No. 4 in the coaches poll and No. 7 in the D3soccer.com poll.
The William Smith basketball, golf, lacrosse, rowing and soccer teams are conducting the annual Baskets or Bust fundraiser. Participants purchase raffle tickets to enter to win one of 30 baskets to be given away on Saturday at 1 p.m. Raffle tickets will be on sale in the lobby of Scandling Campus Center from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday. Online ticket sales will be available until midnight on Sept. 25.
The Hobart lacrosse and rowing teams and William Smith field hockey and rowing teams will host alumni/alumnae events. Some of the events require for online registration.
Hobart lacrosse will host an alumni gathering Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Eddie O’Brien’s on Seneca Street. Saturday, following the dedication of the Thomas B. Poole ’61 and Family Sports Dome, the Hobart lacrosse alumni game will be played in the facility at 11:30 a.m. The Hobart Lacrosse Alumni Welcome and Senior Thank You Dinner wraps up the team’s events at 6 p.m. in the Vandervort Room. Hobart rowing will host an alumni gathering Friday at 9 p.m. at Parker’s on Seneca Street. Saturday, alumni will gather at 11 a.m. at Hellstrom Boathouse for the annual Class Day Races and Barbecue. The Hobart Rowing Alumni and Family Dinner concludes the team’s events at 6 p.m. in Bartlett Theatre in Coxe Hall. CLICK HERE to register.
William Smith rowing will welcome alumnae to Hellstrom Boathouse at 9:30 a.m. for a fun row. Then at noon, alumnae will convene in the Common Room of Scandling Campus Center for lunch and Head Coach Sandra Chu‘s State of the Boathouse address. CLICK HERE to register.
