Gearan Center Performance on Public Radio

The Geneva Music Festival makes its debut on Performance Today, a national show on public radio, with the arrangement of Florence Price’s Piano Concerto, performed by Michelle Cann and string quartet in 2018 at Froelich Hall in the Gearan Center for the Performing Arts.

Price’s Piano Concerto has only been performed a handful of times. Over the past decade, her music has been rediscovered in large part because of Cann, who commissioned a new version for piano quintet. Performance Today calls Cann’s work “intimate and powerful.”

American Public Media’s Performance Today is America’s most popular classical music radio program and a winner of the 2014 Gabriel Award for artistic achievement. The show is broadcast on nearly 300 public radio stations across the country, and reaches approximately 1.4 million listeners each week.

Listen to the performance here. The segment aired on WXXI at 11:30 a.m. and WCNY at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
