As August approaches, Orientation Coordinators Lalaine Vergara ’21 and Garrett Downs ’21 have begun finalizing their plans for a memorable Orientation weekend. The pair have worked closely with Director of Student Activities Kristen Tobey and Associate Director of Student Activities Chad Freeman to plan a fun and safe experience for the Colleges’ newest community members.
Starting Aug. 1, Orientation staff and students will begin returning to campus. “The Orientation Mentor training will be conducted virtually. We’ve planned sessions with Residential Education, the Center for Teaching and Learning and other campus resources to best prepare our staff to direct students’ questions and interests,” Downs says.
“Although Orientation will look different from previous years, at its heart it has the same goal. We want to introduce the Classes of 2024 and other new students to the HWS community and create opportunities for them to connect and make new friends,” says Vergara.
This year’s Orientation will mostly be virtual with opportunities for students to connect in-person in small groups where activities will be facilitated by Orientation Mentors. After lunch, larger sessions will be accommodated via Zoom, and after dinner, small group activities will occur.
All parent programming will be held via Zoom on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Students who are arriving early will be able to connect with their Resident Assistants.
